I'm looking for a gps. I got one for Christmas but was not satisfied with it so I returned it to Sports Authority. It was a Magellan Triton 300 and I found the documentation vague and and confusing. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions? I want something that is really user friendly.

Jim: I am on my second Garmin (currently a 76CSx) and in my opinion, it is very user friendly. I suggest taking a look at the Garmin units. www.gpsnow.com gives you a good side-by-side comparison of each unit. REgards, Paul D.

Hi Paul
Thanks for the input. I've looked at several Garmin units and so far I'm leaning in that direction.
Good luck in the election. You've got my vote. Thanks again.

Jim:
Colleen had a different Garmin unit (60Csx I think), but it has the same size screen and controls as mine. There were several others at the training today. All did well in my opinion. So, find one that is in your price range and has the controls you want. If you ever want to take a closer look, let me know.
Thanks for the support in the election!

Hello Jim: During the training today, I used my Magellan Explorist 210. I believe John Kane was using an Explorist 300 series. We compared our results with the GPS's that Paul and Colleen were using. As far as accuracy, we all matched. The Explorists units I mentioned are fairly simple to use and cost around $150. They don't have too many bells and whistles, but they definitely serve the purpose. The online site of www.cabelas.com list many different brands and I believe their prices are pretty competitive and customer service is good. If you would like, I'll show you the 210 at the next meeting.

Hi Brian:
Thanks for the feed-back. I would like to see your gps at the next meeting and I will certainly check out Cabella's web site.
The problem I had with my Magellen had more to do with documentation than accuracy.
I'm sure that once i settle on a unit and practice with it everything will fall into place.
Thanks again for the in-put.
Jim

Another good place to check pricing and compare features is tigergps.com. I have purchased a few units from them and have been very happy. George
