First, and foremost... pictures! www.thedimarcos.org/ALERTComments: Thank you everyone who participated. Thankfully, the rain held off until right before the pictures were taken. The training was short, but was a great exercise. Some random thoughts: 1. I thought the radios worked out well. It might not be a bad idea if we can convince a few more people to study and take their Amateur Radio Technicians exam to get more radios out there. We are working with LFD to get other radios, and we could always use FRS-type radios for local comms. 2. GPS coordinates - if you have a GPS, make sure you know how to change the style of coordinates. It will be important to do so depending on the maps we have available for our particular search area. For the Musquash, they were in the format Degrees-Minutes-Seconds. 3. I forget who, but someone recommended searching up in the trees as well. Excellent point! 4. We need to think about what color marking tape we use, and standardize on how we mark our progress. For those of you who could not make it, there will be another training with Lt. Jordan on 19-Apr-08. I'm proud to be a part of this organization. All of you are to be commended. Regards, Paul D.

Dito to Paul's statement. Thank you all for coming out on a raw Sat morning. It was a good showing. We do have to train in all weather, never knowing when we could be called. My only addition would be you have to hydrate more. I did not see many people drinking when we were stopped. This is a must at all times. Sometimes when it is cold out, you don't think about it as much. A rule of thumb is 1 liter per hour minimum adjusting for activity level. Line training went well. It showed me I have to work with my GPS a bit more. We should all standardize as a group to the same datum. My points were a few seconds different than others. How did everybody fare as far as clothes and equipment? Those that wore cotton began to feel a chill I bet. Season will change soon but keep up your equipment and keep an eye out for those sales on items you need. Cheaper at times to buy a season ahead. As always, I feel proud to be associated with a group such as yourselves. Rest up...See some of you on Tues.
